  1. A web page has the following URL: http://www.acm.org/technews/articles/2004-7/0812f.html.
    1. What is the TLD?
    2. In what subdirectory can the document be found?
    3. What is the document filename?
  2. Run ipconfig (Windows XP) to determine the IP address of the lab computer to which you are assigned. Also, determine the IP address of the computer in your room.
  3. Go to the www.DNSstuff.com. Do a whois search on cofc.edu to determine the Registrant, administrative contact and server name(s).
  4. Determine what countries the the TLD codes .as and .tv designate.
  5. Run tracert from www.DNSstuff.com to find the IP address of the following sites:
    1. www.CharlestonSouthern.edu
    The next few sites are foreign owned. Find the IP address of each and identify the countries.
    1. www.yadegarasisi.com
    2. www.fsoft.it
    3. www.mnftia.cc
  6. Go to Browser News, www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/. From the internet statistics section find the percentage of web pages accessed using IE6. And the percentage accessed using a Gecko based browser. What is the percentage of browsers with a resolution of 800x600? 1024x768?
  7. The following questions deal with identifying IP addresses.
    1. What is the address class of the Charleston Southern IP address?
    2. How many hosts can the Charleston Southern network support?
    3. What is the dotted decimal equivalent to the IP address:
      01001100 10001011 00010110 01010011
  8. Describe how to turn graphics on/off in I.E. or FireFox.
  9. Submit a screenshot of The Citadel's homepage with graphics turned off.
  10. List the browser plug-ins on the computer in your barracks room (if you have one) or the one in the lab (if you don't).
