CSCI 217 Homework 2
Due: January 23
Email an electronic copy of your homework answers to your
instructor, but keep a copy. Eventually, you will post this on your
website.
- Go http://www.sitepoint.com/article/usability-blunders-big-players
and read the article "Top Ten Usability Blunders of the Big Players".
Turn in a discussion of the 10 problems cited. Even though this
article is four years old, the issues are still relevant today.
- Read the following article about developing a web site and write an outline
of the key points: "Blueprint
to Develop a Great Web Site" http://www.thejournal.com/articles/15341.
Find the answers to problems 3-5 by searching the web. A complete answer must
provide the URL for the source.
- A "famous" quote begins "In order that people may be happy".
Give the name of the author, when he lived, and the full quote.
Cite two sources for your information.
- Do a web search to identify the top virus for August 2007. List two sites
where you can find up-to-date virus information.
- Determine the number of web sites that have links to www.panoguide.com
using Google, MSN and Yahoo. Compare the results. Consult the Bare Bones 101 tutorial
for the code to use.
The next problem is to give you practice evaluating information
found on the web.
- Go to the "T is for Thinking" web site,
http://www.ithaca.edu/library/training/think.html, on
critical thinking. Read the guide. Do the one more st*p*d
assignment. Namely, choose one of the topics (either
"The Sixties", or "Eggs and Cholesterol"), look at the sites
referenced, and evaluate two. Be sure to include one that you
think contains reliable information and one that does not. Write
an evaluative paragraph on each of your two choices based
on criteria for evaluating information.
Email your analysis for #6 to your instructor and cc: a copy to John Henderson
at Ithaca College (jhenderson@ithaca.edu).
You can also consider the two references "Evaluate your Sources"
and "Comparing & Evaluating Web Information Sources" for useful
ideas on evaluation.
