CSCI 217 Homework 3

This assignment has two parts. In the first part you are to evaluate two (2) websites, one that is well designed and one that has problems. In the second part you are to begin to formulate criteria for a well designed web site.

The assignment must be submitted using the CSCI 217 Discussion Forum in WebCT.

Part 1. In a single posting (two paragraphs) to the Discussion Forum you are to
  1. Provide the URL of a web site (in English) that is well designed and describe why the site is well designed.

  2. Provide the URL of a web site (in English) that has problems and describe the features you think look bad, do not work well, or are annoying.
Part 2. You are to formulate several design criteria. In a later homework you will use these criteria and others suggested by classmates.

READ THIS. Each criterion is to be in the form of a declarative statement. For example: There are no broken links. Or All links work properly. Since the objective is to develop a large list of design do's and don't's your criteria MUST be different from your classmates for full credit. This means you should read what your classmates have proposed before adding you criteria. If similar criteria are submitted, the posted time and date determines credit. It would be wise to formulate a few "extra" criteria for backup.

Design criteria are grouped into two general areas: functionality and aesthetics/design. Post a single message to the Discussion Forum where:
  1. the first paragraph gives two criteria for evaluating the functionality of a web page, and

  2. the second paragraph gives two criteria for evaluating the aesthetics/design of a web page.
